Joseph H. Patterson was born in Rutherford County, Tenn., on July 9, 1851, and is a son of Horace H. Patterson, who removed from Tennessee to Arkansas in 1853, and settled at Pea Ridge, Benton County, where he still resides. Joseph H. was educated in the subscription schools of Arkansas, and early learned to do farm work. Since reaching manhood he has worked on a farm during the spring and summer seasons, but for eight years during the fall and winter he worked at the carpenter’s trade. His marriage with Sarah Rich was celebrated on August 12, 1869. She is the daughter of Samuel F. Rich, deceased. To Mr. and Mrs. Patterson have been born six children, of whom three are living, viz.: John F., Albert and Horace H. Mr. Patterson came to McDonald County Mo., in February, 1886, and located on his present farm in Centre Township. He is the owner of — acres, which he is improving. He is industrious and enterprising, and is a member of the Farmers’ Alliance, also of the Masonic fraternity. The family are consistent Christians and members of the Baptist Church.
