Below is a family biography included in The History of McDonald County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. James T. Pogue, one of the prosperous farmers of McDonald County, Mo., was born in Howard County, Mo., on January 13, 1840. He is a son of Nicholas Pogue (deceased), a native of Greenup County, Ky., who came to Missouri in 1839. In March of 1840 he removed his family to Bates County, Mo., and settled on a farm. James T. Pogue was reared at the home of his parents, and secured a fair education in the common schools of Missouri and Kansas. In 1857 he went to Bourbon County, Kas., thence to Allen County, Kas., in 1860. He came to McDonald County, Mo., in December, 1870, settling where he now resides, in Buffalo Township. He has devoted his time chiefly to farming and stock raising. He is particularly interested in raising fine cattle. His farm contains 364 acres, and is under a good state of cultivation. On December 28, 1862, he was united in marriage to Galena A. Huff, a daughter of Jacob Huff. She died in November, 1863, having borne one child, who is now deceased. Mr. Pogue married again in May, 1865, choosing for his wife Betsy Winstead, a daughter of James Winstead, deceased. One child was born to this union, but it is now dead. Mrs. Pogue died in March, 1868, and the following December Mr. Pogue married Sarah Crawshaw, by whom he is the father of eight children, all of whom are living, viz.: Nicholas, Henry, Charles, Elizabeth, Olive, Harvey, Ida R. and Celesta. Mrs. Pogue is a daughter of Samuel Crawshaw. Both Mr. Pogue and wife are zealous Christians, and members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
