Below is a family biography included in The History of McDonald County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. James N. Polson, a farmer and stock raiser of South West City, Mo., was born in Washington County, Ark., on August 10, 1845. His father, who is now dead, emigrated from Tennessee to Arkansas in 1828. James N. Polson’s education, which was begun in the common schools at Fayetteville, Ark., was interrupted by the war breaking out. He early chose farming as a vocation, which he has since followed. He removed from his native State to the Indian Nation, one mile west of South West City, in 1874. He there located upon a farm, which he still cultivates, but has been living in South West City since the fall of 1885. He owns five acres of land in the suburbs of the city, on which are good improvements. On March 13, 1873, he was united in marriage with Henrietta Stevenson, a daughter of Franklin Stevenson (deceased), and to them have been born eight children. Those living are Henry, Emil, Alma and John. Both Mr. Polson and wife are Christians, and are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
