Below is a family biography included in The History of McDonald County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. James N. Langley, one of the respected citizens and well-to-do farmers of McMillan Township, McDonald Co., Mo., was born in Cobb County, Ga., on March 22, 1813, and is a son of James Langley, a native of South Carolina, who immigrated to Callaway County, Mo., in 1817, and there spent the remainder of his life. James N. Langley was reared at the home of his parents, and secured a limited education in subscription schools of the county. His wife, to whom he was married on August 9, 1838, was a daughter of Robert Newson (deceased). In 1840 he immigrated to Jasper County, Mo., and there stayed until the close of the war, when he sold out and immigrated to McDonald County, Mo., locating on his present farm. He devoted his whole time to farming and stock raising, and has never held any office except that of deputy sheriff, nor has he ever sought official honors. His farm contains 446 acres of the best land in the county, and he and family enjoy the comforts of a good home. Mrs. Langley died on December 29, 1886, leaving nine children, viz.: William, Robinet, James R., John, Elizabeth, Angelina, George, Lafayette and Sterling P.
