George Franklin Manning, a well-to-do farmer and stock raiser of Prairie Township, McDonald Co., Mo., is a native of Lawrence County, Mo., born on October 7, 1856, and is one of a family of eight children of George W. and Elsie (Willhelams) Manning. George W. Manning was born in Sevier County, Tenn., and came to Missouri about 1846. He settled where the subject of this sketch now lives in 1866, and it was here that he died on July 18, 1887. His wife died on March 2, 1884. Of their eight children one is dead. Those living are Margaret E., Sarah L., Rebecca J., John W., James P., George F. and Elsie A. George F. was educated in the schools of Pineville and South West City. He early engaged in farming, and is now the owner of a fine farm of 217 acres. His marriage with Lavinia P. Sappington was solemnized on December 30, 1880. She was a daughter of Preston T. Sappington (deceased). To their union were born three children, two of whom, Rosa M. and Charles P., are living. Mrs. Manning departed this life on October 20, 1887.
