Below is a family biography included in The History of McDonald County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Clark Wallace Noel is one of nine children born to the marriage of Willis B. Noel and Eliza Mann. Willis B. Noel was born in Mercer County, Ky., on November 15, 1818, and was married in 1842. His wife is a daughter of Joseph Mann. Of their nine children seven are living, namely: Clark Wallace, Jasper, Ellen, Willis, Beauregard, Lloyd L. and Henry Y. Mr. Noel removed his family to McDonald County in 1846, and settled on a farm in Elk River Township, where he still resides on a tract of 132 acres. He is a highly esteemed citizen, and a member of the Masonic order. Clark Wallace Noel was born in Casey County, Ky., on November 5, 1843. He was reared on his father’s farm in McDonald County, and secured a limited education in the subscription schools. Since reaching his majority he has been engaged in farming for himself, in connection with which he has run a saw-mill part of the time. During the Civil War he served in the Confederate army under Gen. Price as a member of Capt. Cumming’s company of Col. Caldwell’s regiment. He participated in the battles of Lone Jack and Honey Springs, I. T., in the latter of which he was wounded. His marriage with Frances M. Whinery was celebrated on November 8, 1866, and to them have been born three children, of whom A. Weaver and Sarah E. are living. Mrs. Noel is a daughter of Z. Murphy Whinery (deceased). Mr. Noel is a prosperous farmer and a member of the Masonic order, but has never sought official honors. He is a devout Christian and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
