Below is a family biography included in The History of Lawrence County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. George R. Armstrong, the subject of our sketch, was born in the city of Pittsburgh Penn., July 5, 1851, of Scotch and German ancestry. His education was obtained in the public schools and Western University. In 1867 he began the study of pharmacy, and has been continuously engaged in the business ever since. He attended one course of lectures at Philadelphia, and two at the Western University of Pittsburgh, and a full course in the National Institute of Pharmacy. He has always taken an active part in the advancement of his profession; was one of the organizers of the Ohio Pharmaceutical Association, of which association he is now an associate member; has been an active member of the American Pharmaceutical Association since 1877; is also a member of the Missouri Pharmaceutical Association. Mr. Armstrong is one of the most thorough and reliable pharmacists in the State. He came from Ohio to Peirce City in 1884, and has since continued to reside here. In 1888 he was nominated for mayor on the Democratic ticket, and after a closely contested election he received a majority over one of the most popular and active Republicans in the city. Mr. Armstrong was married in 1873, to Miss M. Langdon, and by her has one son, Harrold, and one daughter, Lulu. Morally, socially, and as a business man, Mr. Armstrong is a gentleman whom any city might be proud to acknowledge as a citizen and faithful public officer.
