Below is a family biography included in The History of Laclede County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

William F. Lambeth is a native of Laclede County, Mo., born in 1846, and is a son of Josiah B. and Sarah A. (Friar) Lambeth, and grandson of Joseph and Lavinia (Fleck) Lambeth, who were prominent residents of the Carolinas. Josiah B. is the youngest of their six children, and was born in Guilford County, N. C., in 1824, and attained his majority in his native State. In 1842 he immigrated to Missouri, locating on the Glaize, and resided in Laclede County until 1861, when he took refuge in Texas, and enlisted in the Confederate army. He was taken prisoner at Vicksburg, but was afterward exchanged, and was given a position in the commissary department. After peace was declared he resided one year in Franklin County, and then took up his abode in St. James, Phelps County, where he sent his children to school, and in the fall of 1867 went to Lawrence County, and purchased land on the head-waters of Spring River. After residing here four years, he next located in Verona, where he died in 1875, and where his widow is still living. He was a member of the A. F. & A. M., and a Democrat in politics. His wife was born in North Carolina in 1819, and after becoming a woman came to Dade County, Mo., with her parents in the fall of 1842, and was married in February of the following year. The following are their children: Joseph, William, Madison, Susan (Latta), Nina (Grammar), Orlena (Ham), and Irving, who resides with his mother. Mrs. Lambeth is now a member of the Christian Church, but earlier in life was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. William F. Lambeth has always resided in Laclede County, with the exception of one year (1866), when he resided in Franklin County, where he was engaged in farming. In February, 1867, he espoused Miss Malinda Bohannon, who was born in Roane County, Tenn., in 1849, but came to Missouri with her parents when a child, where she grew to womanhood. She was a daughter of John Bohannon and Elizabeth Esther, and became the mother of seven children: John, James, Joseph, William, Andrew, Roenia, who is deceased, and Dee, the youngest. Mr. and Mrs. Lambeth are members of the Christian Church, and he is a stanch Democrat in politics.
