Thomas F. Lockwood, M. D., one of the leading physicians of Conway, Laclede Co., Mo., is a native of Sangamon County, Ill., and was born January 11, 1865. He is a son of Isaac and Sarah (Dunbar) Lockwood, the former of whom was born in Shelby County, Ill., and the latter in Virginia. They are now living in Washington Township, Laclede Co., Mo. The father is fifty-three years of age and the mother fifty-five. They were married in Christian County, Ill., and moved to Shelby County in 1869, whence they came to Laclede County, Mo., in 1878. Previous to his removal to Missouri, Isaac Lockwood worked as a mill-wright, miller and carpenter, and after he removed to Missouri he worked at his adopted trade until a recent date, since which time he has devoted his attention exclusively to farming. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and a Democrat in politics. The parents are both members of the Missionary Baptist Church. To their union were born nine children, seven of whom are living: Mary J., wife of Martin M. Sphar, a farmer of Laclede County; Francis M., a farmer of Allen County, Kas.; George H., a farmer of Laclede County; Thomas F., M. D.; William A., at home; Isaac O. and Ira E. (twins), at home. Thomas F. Lockwood received a liberal education in the schools of Laclede County, and began the study of medicine under Dr. A. H. Neal, then of Laclede County. During the sessions of 1885-86 and 1886-87, he attended the Northwestern Medical College, at St. Joseph, Mo., graduating in February, 1887. He then returned to Laclede County and entered upon the practice of his chosen profession, locating in Conway, Laclede County, in June, 1888, where he has a growing patronage. June 20, 1886, Dr. Lockwood married Ellen J. Barr, daughter of Dr. S. B. F. C, Barr, of Laclede County, formerly of Tennessee. One child has been born to Dr. and Mrs. Lockwood, Eda Ethel. Dr. Lockwood also practiced on the Osage River one year, where he was blessed with success, and which practice he still retains. He is one of the rising practitioners of Laclede County, and gives good satisfaction in his work as a physician. He is a most skillful member of the medical fraternity, using the greatest precaution in discharging his professional duty. His aim is to rank among the highest of the profession. The Doctor and wife are members of the Baptist Church. In politics he is a Democrat.
