Simon Dalton was born in Hawkins County, Tenn., March 8, 1825, and in 1849 immigrated to Missouri, locating in Crawford County, from which he came to Laclede County in 1851, and located on the farm on which he is now residing. He is a son of Thomas and Dollie (Light) Dalton, who were natives of Tennessee, and were of English and Dutch lineage, respectively. The former’s death occurred during his son Simon’s boyhood, and the mother died during the late Civil War. Simon received such education as the schools of his day afforded, and at the early age of fourteen years began the battle of life for himself. His first investment in real estate was eighty acres of land where he now lives, but he afterward entered 120 acres, a portion of which is well improved. Besides his farming interests, he is engaged in raising horses, cattle and hogs, and has a fine young orchard. In 1875 he was married to Pernecia, daughter of James B. Davis, by whom he became the father of four children: James B., married to Adaline Hafly; Lethe, wife of Thomas King; Ruth, and Elizabeth, wife of David Buster. Mrs. Dalton is a member of the Christian Church. Her first husband, Charles K. Phipps, was a soldier in the late war, and died August 18, 1863. Mr. Dalton is a member of the Democratic party, and is one of the leading pioneer settlers of Laclede County.
