Luke Joslin, gardener and broom-maker, was born in Washington County, Vt., in July, 1820, and is the son of Luke and Lydia (Graves) Joslin, natives of Vermont, and of English descent, and grandson of Ezra Joslin, who was a farmer by occupation, and who died in Vermont. Luke Joslin, Sr., was also a farmer by occupation, and he too died in Vermont. The mother died in Wisconsin. They were the parents of eight children, three now living: Orrilla, Fannie S. and Luke. The latter was reared and educated in Washington County, Vt., and was there married, in 1843, to Joan A. Ford, a native of Vermont. About 1845 Mr. Joslin removed to Dane County, Wis., purchasing a farm, which he carried on until 1865. In the latter part of 1863 he enlisted in Company H, Eighth Wisconsin Infantry, and served until the close of the war. He served in camp and hospital, and was not called on the field at all. In the summer of 1865 he returned home, and in the fall of the following year he moved to Miller County, Mo., where he resided until 1878, after which he moved to Lebanon, Mo. He here purchased a homestead in the brush, which he has cleared and vastly improved. He carries on his trade, that of broom-making, has a good business, and in connection with this he also carries on gardening, raising all kinds of vegetables. He was elected mayor of Lebanon in 1881, and held the office one term. He is a member of the G. A. R., and he and Mrs. Joslin are members of the Congregational Church. To their marriage were born seven children: Wilburt C., Carrie E., Luke, David D. (deceased), Herbert W., Charles E., Mary E. and Hattie E.
