L. A. Moore, grocer and proprietor of a meat-market at Lebanon, Mo., was born in Adams County, Wis., January 1, 1854, and is the son of Asa J. and Nancy (Pooler) Moore, the father a native of Maine and the mother of Ohio. The parents were married in Wisconsin, and the father was a farmer by occupation. He enlisted in Company D, Sixteenth Regiment Wisconsin Volunteers, and died of fever while in service near Atlanta, Ga. The widow was left in Wisconsin with five children, the eldest being L. A. He was but eleven years old at this time, and worked hard to assist his mother in supporting the younger children. Finally he was put out with a farmer, and remained with him for some time, receiving a limited education as he was kept busily at work. In 1872 he came to Lebanon, Mo., where he remained about eighteen months, and then went back to Wisconsin. In 1876 he again returned to Lebanon, and was employed at a low salary as clerk in a grocery store. By economy and industry he accumulated enough money to go into business for himself, and has carried on the grocery and meat-market business since December 3, 1884. Mr. Moore has been quite successful in his business undertakings, and deserves great credit for pluck and energy. He owns a farm near Lebanon, and has a fine orchard of 1,500 apple trees. He was married October 22, 1883, to Miss Mary Glynn, and to them have been born three children: Emanuel, Adelbert and Thomas E. Mr. Moore is a member of the Sons of Veterans.
