Below is a family biography included in The History of Jasper County, Missouri published by Mills & Company in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. T. B. HAUGHAWOUT, attorney and counselor at law was born in Lafayette county, Wisconsin, in 1846. His father, Joshua, was a native of Pennsylvania, as was his mother, whose maiden name was Amelia Steese. Having received his education in his native county, he enlisted in 1803 in Company I of the Second Wisconsin Cavalry, serving until the close of the war, having engaged some time in farming, after the close of the war. . He was married in 1866 to Caroline A. Durand, of Wisconsin, who was a native of Ohio. They have four children, one son and three daughters. In the spring of 1868 he came to Jasper county, Missouri, and improved a farm, where he lived until 1873, when he moved to Carthage, engaging in the grocery trade, and at the same time reading law. In January, 1875, he was admitted to the bar, and has ever since been eminently successful in the practice of law. Mr. Haughawout has taken active part in political affairs, and has supported the principles of the Republican party. He has served as city attorney, and in 1880 he was elected prosecuting attorney of the county, and in 1882 was re-elected to the same office. Mr. Haughawout stands among the first of the Jasper county bar, and is widely known throughout the county.
