Below is a family biography included in The History of Jasper County, Missouri published by Mills & Company in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. JOHN PEACOCK. One of the most successful farmers of Sheridan township is the subject of this sketch. He was born in Randolph county, Ind., May 8, 1847, and is the son of Daniel and Rachel Peacock. His father was a cripple, and he had to work on the farm, having but little opportunity to attend school. In Feb., 1864 he moved to Douglas county, Ill., and in the same year enlisted in Company G, One Hundred and Thirty-fifth Illinois Infantry, and was in the army about six months. He then went to work by the month on a farm until 1879, and then came to Jasper county, Mo., and worked out by the month for six years. He was married to Miss Rebecca Mitchell, Jan. 7, 1877; she was born in Highland county, Ohio, Aug. 15, 1846. Mr. Peacock now has 192 ½ acres of land, 10 acres of it in timber; the rest is all fenced. He has two houses and one good spring of water. Mr. Peacock is a good farmer and very highly respected in the community. Mr. Peacock came to Jasper county thirteen years ago with $150, and is now worth not less than $6,000, which he has made in Jasper county Mr. and Mrs. Peacock have two children, named Minnie and Jasper.
