Below is a family biography included in The History of Jasper County, Missouri published by Mills & Company in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. HOWARD H. HAVEN, lessee and manager of the Joplin Opera House, was born in St. Louis, Mo., July 6, 1852. His father, C. H. Haven, was born in London, Eng., Jan. 30, 1813; his mother, Laura E. (Richmond) Haven, was born in Providence, R. I., and died in St. Louis. Our subject was raised in St. Louis, receiving a liberal education in the city schools. When twenty-one years of age he engaged with B. L. Harden as collector for two years, then accepted a position with the Globe-Democrat Company, and two years thereafter traveled for the same in Arkansas, Louisiana, and others of the Southern states. He came to southwest Missouri in the spring of 1876, locating at Joplin. Soon after he engaged in mining at Galena, Kan. While there he assisted in organizing, and was the first city clerk. One year later he returned to Joplin, and accepted a position as collector and circulator of the Daily News. In the winter of 1878-79 he took charge of the Joplin Opera House for A. J. Blackwell. In Sept., 1881, he leased the house, and has since had entire control. Mr. H. is a man of good business qualifications.
