Below is a family biography included in The History of Gasconade County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Fred W. Brueggemann is a carpenter by trade, and was born in Hanover, Germany, in 1846. His parents, H. H. and Margaret Brueggemann, started to immigrate to the United States in 1858, but the father died in mid ocean while en route. The rest of the family came on, and located in St. Louis County Mo., where the mother died in 1862. The father was a farmer, and during 1813 and 1815 served in the war under Napoleon Bonaparte. Fred W. Brueggemann received the principal part of his education in his native land, and after coming to this country learned the carpenter’s trade in St. Louis. This occupation he has since followed. During the late war he served six months in Company C, Third Missouri Volunteer Infantry. In March, 1870, he was united in marriage to Augusta, daughter of Henry Bueker. She was born in St. Louis, and is the mother of seven children. Mr. Brueggemann is the owner of 200 acres, all of which he obtained through his own industry and economy. From 1872 to 1876 he held the office of justice of the peace, and since 1882 has filled the same office. He has been a member of the school board ten years, and at one time practiced law. Politically, he is a Republican, and his first presidential vote was cast for Lincoln. He is a member of the Protestant Church. He has a sister living in St. Louis, a brother in Illinois, and another brother in this county.
