Below is a family biography included in The History of Franklin County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

Anton Jasper, general blacksmith and dealer in agricultural implements, under the firm title of Jasper & Son, is a native of Germany, born in 1827, and is a son of Franz and Gertrude (Broermann) Jasper. The father was born in Germany in 1793, was a farmer, was married in 1824, and emigrated to the United States in 1844, settling in Franklin County. He purchased fifty-six acres two miles southwest of Washington, where he passed the remainder of his life. He died in 1880. His wife died in 1862. She was the mother of six children, our subject being the second. He was seventeen years old when he came to America, but previous to this, when he was fourteen, he had learned the blacksmith’s trade, and after coming to America he worked as a journeyman for one year. In 1852 he established a shop on his own responsibility, and in 1853 he and Mr. H. Krog became partners, and so continued until 1885, with the exception of a few months during the war. In 1853 Mr. Jasper married Miss Anna E. Schwegmann, who was born in Hanover, Germany, in 1830, and who came to the United States when but three years of age. Six children were born to this union: Edward F., George F., Anna M. E., Henry A., John G. A. and William A. May 4, 1885, Mr. Jasper and his son, George, became partners, and are now together. Mr. Jasper has been in business in Washington for thirty-five years, is a skillful workman and a good citizen. He is a Democrat in politics, was a member of the town council two years, was also town collector two years, and he and wife are members of the Catholic Church. George F., mentioned above, was married May 18, 1886, to Miss Mary Schrader, a native of Franklin County, Mo., and the daughter of Conrad Schrader. One child, Walter, was born of this union.
