W. W. COLEMAN was born November 17, 1821, in Mecklenburg County, Va. He is a son of James B. and Sarah (Williams) Coleman. The father was born June 10, 1796, in the same county and State; he died December 10, 1883, in his eighty-eighth year, in Houston County, Tenn. The mother was born in Amelia County, Va.; she died in 1879, aged seventy-nine, in Montgomery County, Tenn. Our subject was raised on his father’s farm; about 1843 he came to Montgomery County, Tenn., where he remained till 1850, when he moved to Alabama and was engaged in merchandising till 1867. He then removed to Christian County Ky., and sold goods at Garretsville two and a half years. In May, 1870, he came to Guthrie and was engaged in merchandising two years, after which he came to his farm, and with the exception of two years in selling goods, he has been engaged in agricultural pursuits since. Mr. Coleman was married in 1858 to Mrs. Williams, of Alabama. This union was blessed with one son— James Percy—now a resident of Arkansas, and a teacher at the Southern Collegiate Institute, Franklin County, where he has been the past four years. Second marriage to Mrs. Mildred F. Carneal, a native of Todd County; she has one daughter—Frances Howard—now Mrs. Hackney, also living on the farm.
