JOSIAH WILSON was born in Washington County, Ky., on March 11, 1837, and is a son of John H. and Harriet (Pettit) Wilson. The parents were also natives of Washington County, and there they lived and died. The father was a soldier in the war of 1812, and was in the battle of New Orleans. Our subject was the tenth of eleven children, of whom three are now living, viz.: Mrs. Catherine Brook, of East Liverpool, Ohio; Anthony, in Washington County, Ky., and Josiah (our subject). The field schools of his native county furnished the latter’s education. He commenced life for himself when twenty-one on a farm in that county. He remained there until 1864, when he came to this county and settled on his present farm. Here he now owns 165 acres, all of which are in cultivation. He also follows stock-trading to some extent, handling about seventy-five head per year. He was married in this county on February 18, 1864, to Miss Sallie A. Terry, a daughter of James H. and Eliza (Bellamy) Terry; the father was a native of Virginia, the mother of Todd County. Mrs. Wilson was born in this county in 1845, and is the mother of one child—Earnest. Mr. Wilson is a member of the Baptist Church; Mrs. Wilson of the Christian. He is a member of Olmstead Lodge, K. of H., and has been identified with the Masonic fraternity.
