GEORGE SIMONS was born March 28, 1841, in Todd County, Ky. His parents were George and Susan (Allison) Simons. The father died November, 1869, aged sixty-five years. The mother was born in Virginia in 1803, and is now living with her son James H. They were among the earliest settlers of the county. In 1861, George enlisted in Company D, Twenty-fifth Regiment United States Infantry, and afterward consolidated with the Seventeenth Regiment. He served three years and three months. Ho took part in the battles of Shiloh, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, the Atlanta campaign and others. While in the army he contracted a disease from which he is a continuous sufferer, and will be more or less all his life. He was married May 7, 1865, to Martha Rager of this county. Four children—Amos, aged eighteen years; Inus, aged sixteen years; Andrew, aged fourteen and Oren, aged seven years—have blessed this union. Four years after marriage they moved to Missouri where they remained five years. They then moved to Illinois where they stayed nine months. In 1875 they returned to Todd County and located on his present farm, consisting of 127 acres; about fifty acres of this farm are improved. This improvement was done by Mr. Simons himself.
