My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

ROBERT BROADFOOT, a deceased pioneer of Paducah, Ky., and father of Broadfoot brothers, of that place, was born in 1810, in Winchelsea, England. He came to the United States in 1826, making his first permanent settlement in New York City; thence to Jersey City, N. J., where he remained until 1838, when he removed to Charleston, S. C. In 1832, in Trenton, N. J., he was married to Miss Eunice Nutt. In the year 1847, they emigrated to Kentucky, locating in Paducah, where Robert worked at the mill wright trade, a pursuit to which he devoted his entire life, which terminated in September, 1856. His widow, who was born in 1814, is still a resident of Paducah, where she is surrounded by her appreciative and enterprising children. They reared a large family, of which six are now living, viz.: Sarah, Robert, William S., Geneva, George and N. Thomas Broadfoot. The above named sons are engaged in general mercantile business and also in the steamboat traffic; they own the tug, “John Orm,” and have another in course of construction.
