My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

His grandfather was an officer in the British navy, settled in North Carolina, from whence he removed to Kentucky, and settled in Muhlenburg County, where he died. In his family was a son, James G. They had seven children—James W., whose name heads this sketch, being the sixth. James G. Eden was a merchant, and later a farmer, and finally located in McCracken County, on a farm long known as Eden’s Hill, where in 1871, he died, and where his widow died on May 27, 1884. James W. Eden was educated chiefly in Paducah, Ky., studied law under Judge Bigger of that city, and in 1878 entered the law department of the university of Ann Arbor, Mich., where he graduated in July, 1879. He then established an office in Paducah for the practice of his profession, but soon became associated with J. W. From 1876 to 1878, he served the county as commissioner of schools. He is a member of the K. of H.
