RICHARD J. GRACE was born October 3, 1840, in Trigg County, Ky., where he grew to manhood, and in 1865 removed to Ballard County, where he remained until 1879, when he came to Graves County, and settled at his present residence, a place known in the war time as “Camp Beauregard.” His father, Elliott Grace, also a native of Trigg County, was born in 1815, and is still living. He is the son of George Grace, who was reared in Trigg County, and died about 1848. Subject’s mother was Mary A., daughter of Samuel Meridith, of Trigg County. The children of Elliott Grace are Marcella A. (Hilton), subject, George E. (who died in the army), Jane, Samuel T., Joseph and Charles W. In youth subject procured a business education, and is a considerable reader of books and newspapers. He was married October 12, 1865, to Miss Emma T., daughter of John Waddill, of Trigg County. She was born in 1839, and died in 1866. He was next married November 11, 1868, to Miss Lorenna, daughter of Jerman J. and Ann Y. (Beadles) Wingo, of Graves County, and to them have been born George E., Mittie A., Mary E. and Thomas J. In 1874 Mr. Grace was elected county surveyor. He was appointed magistrate of the Water Valley district in 1880, and at the election of 1882 he was elected to that office, which position he now retains. He is a farmer, owning 127 acres of good land in a fine state of cultivation. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, a deacon in the Baptist Church, and in politics a Democrat.
