Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WILLIAM T. ROSWELL, farmer and stock grower, and also a native of Gallatin County, Ky., was born July 20, 1854. His father, Thomas R. Roswell, a native of Scott County, was born May 3, 1817. He married Amelia Kirby, of Bourbon County, daughter of Enoch and Delilah Kirby. Two sons and two daughters blessed their union, of whom our subject is the youngest and only living child. His paternal grandfather was Elijah Roswell of Virginia. William T. Roswell has been a farmer all his life, and lives on 150 acres of land, which he successfully manages. His early education was received at Warsaw, and in 1875 he completed a scientific course at Lebanon, Ohio, and then taught for a number of years in Gallatin County. September 25, 1877, he married Mary E. Rice, of Gallatin County, a daughter of ex-County Judge John Rice and Delilah (Hoggins) Rice. One son and one daughter blessed their union, viz.: Charles M. and Bertha A. Politically Mr. Roswell is a Democrat. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
