My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

At the age of twelve he came to Kentucky with his parents, who settled in Harrison County, where he grew to manhood, and married Nancy N. McAndless, of Pendleton County, Ky., daughter of John McAndless, who bore him ten children, the subject of this sketch being the ninth child. Edward J. Moore died in 1859, and his widow died May 27, 1883; both were members of the Christian Church. James Moore the paternal grandfather of George M., a native of Culpeper County, Va., settled on a farm near Cynthiana, Harrison County, about 1810, on what is known as Crooked Creek; he afterward removed to Pendleton County, where he died. George M. Moore received a good English education in the common schools of Gallatin County, and has always followed farming; he owns 175 acres of well cultivated land, which he successfully manages. He settled in Gallatin County in 1846 with his parents, who located near where our subject now resided. October 22, 1879, he married Liza West, of Boone County, daughter of James and Mahala (Dance) West. One daughter, Amanda C., has blessed their union. Politically Mr. Moore is a Democrat, and with his wife has been a consistent member of the Christian Church for many years.
