Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

ROBERT H. BINFORD was born in the village of Moscow, Hickman Co., Ky., April 9, 1836; was brought by his mother, in 1838, to Fulton County, where he still retains his residence. His father, Robert Binford, was born near Richmond, Va., removed to Kentucky in 1827 and died in 1838. He was the son of Thomas S. Binford of Virginia. Subject’s mother, Mary A., daughter of Gideon Jarratt, of Rutherford County, Tenn., died in 1879, at the age of seventy-five years. To her and husband were born Gideon J., Mary R. (Walgamott), subject and Pinkney S. G. February 3, 1858, subject married Miss Sarah P., daughter of Lunsford and Frances (Bird) White of Fulton County, and to them have been born Pinkney L., Gertrude (Robinson), Harriet T., Alonzo, Atlanta (deceased), Virginia B. and a twin brother, Walter (deceased), Lucian R., Charles W., Pompey, Mary I. and Earle. Subject is a farmer and extensive livestock trader, having 184 acres of valuable and productive land well improved. He is an Ancient Odd Fellow and a Democrat.
