My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

M. W. RICHARDSON was born March 20, 1840, in Fulton County, Ky., and was a son of Samuel S. and Catherine (George) Richardson, natives of Kentucky. The father came to the Purchase in 1828, and, settling in Hickman County, engaged in land speculating and farming. M. W. was reared on a farm. His father died when he was quite young, but he was brought up by his mother, who is still living at the advanced age of seventy-five years. He began life for himself in 1856, as a clerk in Milburn. At the end of a year he engaged in business for himself at that point, and remained there until 1883, first running a grocery and dry goods store, and subsequently a harness shop. In February of that year he came to Fulton, where he has since been engaged in the latter business. He also handles a stock of buggies and carriages. He was married August 29, 1860, to Miss Mary Sanford, of Ballard County, Ky., and a daughter of Daniel Sanford, a native of Kentucky, and of Irish origin. The result of this marriage has been six children, viz.: Iona C., Minor W., Kittie, George P. (deceased), Boone S. and Marion E. Mr. Richardson is a member of the Christian Church, his wife of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He is a member of the Masonic order, and of the K. of H., and has been a member of the Fulton village board.
