Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JOHN A. WYATT, Fulton County, was born March 17, 1848, in Graves County, Ky. He is the only child of John A. and. Mary J. (Phipps) Wyatt, natives of Graves County, Ky., and Davidson County, Tenn., respectively, and of Irish and English descent. His grandfather was Jonathan Wyatt, and on his mother’s side Eldridge Phipps, who married a Miss Castleman. John A. was reared on a farm; he was born about three months after his father’s death, and was six years old when his mother died. He then lived with his aunt until he was sixteen years old. His father owned 640 acres of land, twelve miles south of Mayfield. Mr. Wyatt clerked in a grocery at Hickman, and at the age of nineteen years engaged in the dry goods business at Feliciana, Graves County, for two and one half years. In 1870 he moved to Fulton, where he continued the business with the best success. He was married December 17, 1868, to Miss Bell L. Milam, of Graves County, daughter of Dr. T. R. and Sue (Janes) Milam, of English descent. Mrs. Wyatt is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Wyatt is a member of the K. of H.; he cast his first presidential vote for Horace Greeley. To Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt was born one child, now deceased.
