Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

EPHRAIM ROWE, Fulton County, was born January 29, 1848, in Kent, England. He is the fourth of six children—two boys and four girls—all living, born to Charles and Mary Ann (Burton) Rowe. The father was a miller by trade, and came to the United States about the year 1851 and settled in York State. Thence moved to Hamilton County, Ohio, where he engaged in the milling business. In 1860 he moved to Newburgh, Ind., and engaged in milling. In 1861 he, went to Booneville, Ind., where he has since lived and is now eighty-two years old; his wife is also living. Ephraim Rowe enlisted in February, 1864, in Company E, One Hundred and Twentieth Indiana Infantry, under T. J. Downs captain, B. F. Barter colonel commanding. He participated in the battles of Atlanta, Franklin, Nashville and Kingston, N. C. He was discharged January, 1866, at Raleigh, N. C. He returned to his home in Indiana, and was engaged in a tobacco factory a short time; later he engaged in milling in Boonville. In 1867 he went to Paducah, where he was engaged for six weeks by James Langstaff in a mill. He then returned home. In 1869 he again went to Paducah and worked for same person as on his former trip. In 1872 he went to Caseyville, Ky., and worked at his trade until April, 1882. Thence he went to Paducah. In February, 1883, he went to New Liberty. In March, 1884, he located in Fulton, and formed a partnership with N. B. Hester in the milling business. Mr. Rowe was married to Dora Watkins of Union County, Ky., in December, 1876. Her parents died when she was quite young. She is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
