A. V. UNDERWOOD was born in Weakley County, Tenn., in 1838. His father, Jerry Underwood, was a farmer and died in 1862, aged about sixty years. His mother, Mary (Arnold) Underwood, died in 1867, at about the same age as her husband. They were the parents of fifteen children; ten of whom are still living. A. V. Underwood commenced life for himself at the age of twenty-one years, following the vocation of a farmer in his native county and State, remaining there until his removal to Fulton County, some time prior to 1867. He bought his present place of seventy-two acres three miles south of Hickman in 1869, and from a dense forest has made it one of the finest little farms in the southern part of the precinct. He was married in 1858 to Melissa, daughter of Hugh and Eliza (Sheridan) Moore of Tennessee. In politics Mr. Underwood votes with the Democratic party.
