My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

CHARLES N. STRINGFELLOW, a native of Carroll County, Ky., was born May 11, 1820, the eldest son of William and Elizabeth (Atchison) Stringfellow, natives, respectively, of Virginia and Lexington, Ky. Mrs. Elizabeth (Atchison) Stringfellow was a daughter of James Atchison. William Stringfellow was born in 1792; moved from Lexington to Carrollton in 1818; was a carpenter and contractor, and died in 1864. The maternal grandfather of our subject was a shoemaker by trade, and a native of Ireland, while the paternal grandfather was of English ancestry, and was a soldier in the Revolution. Charles N. Stringfellow learned his trade under his father, who was an extensive contractor from 1818 up to 1845. In 1880 Mr. Stringfellow, in partnership with A. F. Kipping, engaged in the furniture and undertaking business, but they dissolved partnership in 1884, since which time Mr. Stringfellow has conducted the business alone, and carries a stock of $1,000 worth. He also owns a farm of eighty acres. In December, 1847, he married Miss Eliza Belle Monroe, a native of Pennsylvania, who died in 1863, leaving two children: William F. and Gertrude. Mr. Stringfellow is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and is a Republican in politics.
