Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885. These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. WILLIAM F. PETERSON, Murray, attorney at law and master commissioner of the Calloway circuit court, was born in Calloway County, January 14, 1853, a son of Morton and Carolina (Gardner) Peterson, natives of Virginia and Kentucky respectively. The father is a farmer by occupation, and came to Calloway County in 1835. The parents had eight children; our subject was the fifth, and was reared on the farm; by home study, and having the advantages of good common schools, he was able to obtain a good education. At twenty years of age, he served as deputy county clerk for ten months and then began the study of law, completed the same under the instruction of Judge James Campbell, the present circuit judge, and was admitted to practice, May 28, 1875. He was elected to the office of town trustee in 1879, and for two terms has served as police judge of Murray. In 1881 he was appointed master commissioner for the term of four years. Though yet a young man, his abilities have given to him a leading position in the community.
