My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

VIRGIL S. LOVELACE has acted well his part in promoting the growth and prosperity of the nourishing village of Lovelaceville and the beautiful country surrounding it. He was born January 29, 1836, on the place where he now resides (the village having been named in honor of his paternal grandfather.) In youth he obtained such education as the schools of the country afforded, has always improved his opportunities for study, and is a constant reader of standard literature. He was married December 6, 1860, to Miss Mary P., daughter of Washington and Rebecca W. (Magill) Hocker, of Graves County (born July 20, 1844), and to them have been born Rebecca E. (deceased), George W., Victoria T. (deceased), Miriam M. (deceased), Elizabeth R. (deceased), Pearl I., Robert H. (deceased), Virgil A. and Rubie M. In 1870 he engaged in general merchandise, but owing to the pressure of the times, failed in 1878. He is now engaged in the same business, and is meeting with encouraging success. He has for five years been postmaster. He is a Royal Arch Mason, and an old line Whig in sentiment.
