T. W. McCONNELL was born December 24, 1847, in Columbus, Ky. He is a son of James H. and Martha (Winn) McConnell. The father was born in Louisville, Ky., and about 1840 moved to Columbus, where he was engaged in merchandising until his death, which occurred in 1850, aged forty-five. The mother was born in Henry County, Ky., and is now living in Hickman County. Our subject, at the age of fourteen, hired out on a farm and continued in this employment about four years; he then was employed as brakeman on a railroad two years, after which he returned to farming, remaining one year; he then secured a clerkship in the United States postal service, which position he held five years. In 1878 he came to Arlington, and, in company with Mr. Stanley, established a general store; this firm has done a business of over $75,000 per year. This business has recently changed hands, Mr. McConnell being retained as manager. With his brother, he has recently completed a fine training track of half mile in circumference; they have also purchased a fine two year old colt, by Mambrino, also a fine Norman stallion, and are owners of other colts of good pedigree.
