Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

RICHARD N. WYATT, Ballard County, was born June 15, 1830, in Christian County, Ky. He is the fifth of nine children born to Richard and Martha (Harrelson) Wyatt, natives of Virginia, of English and Welsh descent. The grandfather Wyatt came from England. Richard N. was reared on a farm, and lived with his parents till twenty-three years of age, when he started in business for himself. He moved with his parents to Ballard County in 1844, and settled in the northern part of the county. He located where he now lives in 1854, on 150 acres of land, which he has improved with a fine residence. He was married in October, 1853, to Lucretia Garrett, of Ballard County; she was born in Carroll County, Ky., and is a daughter of John and Isabella (Hawthorn) Garrett. To them were born ten children, seven now living: Martha I., now Turner; W. T., H. A., C. W., Eva M., Edward L., Nannie V. Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt are members of the Baptist Church. Mr. Wyatt is a member of the K. of H., and cast his first presidential vote for Gen. Scott in 1852; he voted the Whig ticket until 1864, since which time he has been a Democrat.
