My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JOHN S. SEAY, M. D., one of the leading physicians of Blandville, was born April 26, 1843, in Fulton County, Ky. He is the only child of John G. and Ann E. (Thompson) Seay, natives of Kentucky and Illinois, respectively; his grandparents were Samuel Seay, of English origin, and Moses Thompson, of Scotch-Irish descent, one of whom was in the battle of New Orleans. Our subject was reared on a farm and his early education was limited. His father died in September, 1843; his mother, in 1846, married W. W Adams, by whom she had one boy and two girls. Mr. Adams died in 1852, and the subject of our sketch necessarily had to assist in taking care of the family. He came with his mother to Ballard County, in 1846. He commenced the study of medicine in 1859, and from that time on, applied himself closely. In the spring of 1865, he graduated from University Medical College, at Louisville, Ky., and located in Blandville, where he has continued his practice ever since. He married Margaret S. Beech, of Ballard County; she was born in Williamson County, Tenn., and is the daughter of David and Elizabeth (Robinson) Beech. This union was blessed with seven children, Mary E. (dead), John D. (dead), Ida May, Lora G. (dead), Ersie D., sixth, not named and dead and Ortie M. Mrs. Seay is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Our subject cast his first presidential vote for Horace Greeley.
