Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

DR. JAMES M. LOVELACE, son of Andrew and Eleanor Lovelace, was born August 18, 1841, in Ballard County, Ky., where he now resides. He was in youth favored with good educational advantages, which he has greatly improved. On February 27, 1879, he was married to Miss Lou Belle, daughter of William V. R. and Martha A. (Samuels) Wilson, of Ballard County (born February 3, 1858), and to them have been born Wilson M., Andrew C. and Freeman C. Our subject commenced the study of medicine in 1865, with Dr. Lemuel M. Lovelace, of Milburn, Ky., with whom he remained two years, and in 1867 attended lectures at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, where he remained ten months, then practiced two years in Scott County, Mo., then returned to Lovelaceville, where he remained until 1874, when he went to Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York, where he graduated. In 1877 he attended lectures at the university of Louisiana, at New Orleans, and in 1878 at the university at New York, after which he returned to Ballard County, where he has since been engaged in the successful practice of his profession. Dr. Lovelace is a Royal Arch Mason and is Master of the Blue Lodge. In politics he adheres to the tenets of the old line Whig party.
