Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. JACOB PENN was born December 31, 1844, in Todd County, Ky., and in childhood came with his parents to Ballard County, where he has since resided. In youth he obtained a common school education, and is a reader of good books and papers. He was married, January 9, 1866, to Miss Willie F., daughter of Richard and Mary (Glenn) Fortson, of Ballard County (born in 1851), and to them have been born Mary E., Richard B., Clarrie L., Lillie A. and Jacob R. Subject is a farmer, having 230 acres of good and valuable land in a fine state of cultivation. He is a Methodist in religion, and in politics is identified with the Democratic party.
