Below is a family biography included in History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

EDMUND S. CHENAULT was born June 29, 1839, in Ballard County, Ky., where he still resides. He is a son of Charles B. Chenault, a native of Virginia, who was born in 1802, and removed to Nelson County, Ky., in childhood, and to Ballard County in 1827, where he died in 1877. For fifty two years he was a useful Methodist minister. He espoused Mildred Hughs, of Nelson County, who died in 1873, aged seventy-five years. Their offspring are Eliza (Burrow), Catherine (Piner), Mary A. (Wright), Nancy (McDonald), John W., Marcus L., Sarah E. (Porter), subject and Martha W. (Fisher). In youth E. S. Chenault obtained an English education and is still a diligent reader. On October 1, 1858, he married Miss Martha A., daughter of William W. and Fanny (Edmunson) Parrott, of Ballard County, and from this union sprang Mildred F. (Mott), Mary W. (Shelton), John W. and Thomas J. (deceased). Mr. Chenault is a successful farmer, owning 160 acres of well improved land. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and is also a member of the Methodist Church.
