Below is a family biography included in History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

BENJAMIN S. BAILEY was born in Christian County, Ky., February 21, 1851, and is the eldest of six children born to F. D. and E. J. (Fraser) Bailey, natives of Virginia and Kentucky, respectively, of Scotch descent on the father’s side; his grandparents were Hawcum Bailey and Benjamin F. Fraser, both farmers. Benjamin S. Bailey was reared on a farm, and attended the common schools when not engaged in the duties incident to farm life. In 1855, he came with his parents to the north part of Ballard County, where they engaged in farming. He lived with his parents till married, November, 1872 to Mary A. Walsh, of McCracken County ; she is the daughter of Hiram and May A. (Blanks) Walsh, natives of Christian County, Ky., and Charlotte County, Va., respectively. This union has been blessed with the birth of six children (four living), viz.: Lozo, Clint, Hiram E. and Claude V. After his marriage, Mr. Bailey engaged in farming for nine years. He commenced the study of law, in 1881, with Bugg & Wilds, at Blandville, was admitted to the bar in August, 1881, by W. S. Bishop, and has been police judge at Blandville. He is a member of the K. of H. and cast his first presidential vote for H. Greeley, and voted the Democratic ticket ever since. He is a Presbyterian and his wife is a Baptist.
