Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

THOMAS ROUSE was born in Boone County, Ky., in 1816, and is a son of John and Nancy (Zimmerman) Rouse. John Rouse, a native of Virginia, came to Kentucky in 1805, and settled in Boone County, where he was a farmer. His father, Joseph Rouse, of Virginia, was in the Revolutionary war. Mrs. Nancy Rouse was also a native of Virginia, and came to Kentucky after marrying. Thomas Rouse, the fourth of five children, was educated in Boone County schools. He was a merchant in Florence, Ky., twelve years, then went to Monroe County, Mo., where he was a merchant three years. Returning to Boone county, he was appointed sheriff for two years. In 1846 he was elected representative, and in 1850 and 1851 was State senator. He settled in Grant County in 1866; began farming, and now owns a valuable farm. He was married in 1856 to Nannie Henderson, a daughter of Thomas and Hannah (McClure) Henderson, of Grant County. Thomas Henderson was a Baptist divine, and originally from Virginia. Five children were born to Thomas and Nannie (Henderson) Rouse, viz.: Emma, wife of Prof. J. V. Lloyd, a druggist of Cincinnati, Ohio, has two children; Henderson, John, Shelley D. and Annie. Politically Mr. Rouse is a Democrat.
