G. W. HILL was born in Owen County, Ky., in 1848, and is a son of W. H. and Nancy J. (Smith) Hill, natives of Henry and Owen Counties respectively. W. H. Hill, his father, was magistrate in Owen County four years. His father, George Hill, was a native of Virginia, and settled in Henry County, Ky., about the year 1810, and was a farmer. He also served in the Mexican war. G. W. Hill was educated at the common schools and at Eminence College. He was ordained to the Baptist ministry September 16, 1882, and labored as pastor with churches in Owen and Gallatin Counties until November 1, 1886, when he moved to Williamstown, Grant Co., Ky., and took charge of the Baptist Church at that place. October 30, 1877, he was married to Miss Bettie Haydon, of Franklin County, Ky., a daughter of F. T. and Elizabeth (Duvall) Haydon, both of the same county. Five children have blessed this union, viz.: John L., Stella, Annie, Harry H. and Clara E. Rev. Hill is a Mason, and a member of the I. O. O. F. of Williamstown, Ky. He is also a Democrat.
