Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

W. H. TURNER, a native of Flemingsburg, Fleming Co., Ky., was born December 12, 1818, and is the youngest of eight children born to Edward T. and Lucinda (Rust) Turner, of Virginia. Edward T. Turner was born in 1775 in Farquier County, Va., and immigrated to Kentucky in 1801. He was a farmer by occupation, served in the war of 1812 under Gen. Harrison, and lived in Newport many years before his death, which occurred in 1852. Mrs. Turner died in 1851. They were members of the Baptist Church. W. H. Turner was reared to farming, which occupation he followed until 1840, when he moved to Newport. He was captain and pilot of a ferry boat for several years, and was elected jailer of Campbell County in 1883, 1885 and 1887 on the Republican ticket by a large majority. In 1849 he married Miss Mary Turner, daughter of Wesley Turner. She was born in 1828. Seven children have been born to them, viz.: Emma, Charles E., Harry T., Ellsworth, Nora, Walter (deceased), Sallie (deceased). Charles E. was born in 1852, is a civil engineer by profession, and has been extensively engaged in railroad surveying. He and his mother are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
