My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

J. N. STEWART, county superintendent of schools of Campbell County, is a native of Harrison County, Ky., and is the second in a family of four children born to W. H. and E. A. (Webb) Stewart. W. H. Stewart was born in Indiana, and Mrs. Stewart, a native of Harrison County, Ky., was a daughter of Rev. Charles and Elizabeth (Davis) Webb, the latter a relative of Jefferson Davis, of Confederate fame. J. N. Stewart was educated in the schools of his native county, and, with the single purpose of becoming a teacher, he began teaching at the age of seventeen, and taught fourteen successive years, until declining health caused him to withdraw his efforts from this, his favorite vocation. He began the study of law in 1880, and was admitted to the bar in 1884, in the county where he is now practicing law, and superintending the common schools. Mr. Stewart married Ella Richey, of Walton, Boone Co., Ky., daughter of Milton P. and Mary E. (Bruce) Richey, December 27, 1877. To them have been born three children, viz.: Virgil, Ethel and Myrtle. Mr. Stewart is a Democrat in politics, and a member of the Baptist Church.
