GOVEY WADE, farmer, Section 2, P. O. Columbus, was born in Indiana, in 1817. He removed to Virginia with his parents at the age of seven years, which State remained his home for many years. At the age of seventeen, he learned the blacksmith’s trade in Virginia which he worked at eleven years, when he left Virginia and was absent four years. He was then in Virginia two years, in Iowa twenty-three years, and came to Cherokee County, Kan., in 1875, when he bought and located on his present farm, which he improved, and upon which he is now raising stock and grain, and is one of the substantial farmers of the county. He was County Commissioner and Justice of the Peace in Iowa, and is a member of the United Brethren. He was married to Miss Susan Bland, of Pennsylvania, in 1835, and they have eight children living— Dilla, Eliza, Rachel M., Alexander, Thomas, George W., Palmyra and Andy J., Elsey J. deceased.
