MALOY, JAMES H., Sec. 22; P. O. Indianola; born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, Sept. 20, 1839, and was raised there till the year 1869, in the month of May, when he came to this county; he was raised on a farm, but received a good education, having had all the advantages afforded by the schools of his native county, which was good compared with those of newer countries; he became a teacher at nineteen years of age, which he followed as a profession, and before he came to the West he taught about eight months out of each year, but since he located in this county he has followed farming to some extent during the summer, and also grape raising; he owns an undivided interest in the homestead, which consists of 185 acres of improved land; Mr. Maloy is a man who is practical in general husbandry as well as successful in his profession as teacher; he emigrated to this county with his father, his mother being dead for a number of years, and in 1873 his father died, leaving a family of three sisters and one brother; Mr. Maloy has lost two brothers, one killed in the battle of the Wilderness and the other died in this county in 1869; he was married in Washington county, Pennsylvania., Aug. 14, 1866, to Miss Mattie Ralston, a native of that county; they have a family of three sons and one daughter: Flora B., Thomas J., William J. and George R.
