Below is a family biography included in History of Page County, Iowa published by Iowa Historical Company in 1880.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. CAKE, LUTHER B., attorney at law, of the firm of Cake & Johnson. P. O. Clarinda. Is a native of Ohio. His mother dying when he was two months old, he was cared for by his grandmother until he began to care for himself. In 1866 he came to Clarinda, and attended school about one year. At this time he began teaching, and continued until 1872, when he entered Tabor college, Fremont county, where he remained two years, doubling the course. In 1874 he went to California, remaining one year, engaging in teaching. Returned to Clarinda in 1875, and began to read law with T. E. Clark, Esq. Was admitted to the bar by Judge Forney, in 1875, and entered at once upon the practice of his profession, forming his present partnership in the fall of the same year. Mr. Cake has written much for the press, and is the author of several fine poems, one of which, “Decoration Day,” appears in this work, and speaks a language of its own. He is the author of several plays, and a local farce which was successfully presented by the Clarinda amateur club. He enlisted when eleven years of age, but his youth and small stature caused his rejection. He is a most companionable man, of excellent education, firm and strong in his conviction of right, an exemplary citizen, with the confidence and esteem of all who know him.
