HARRIS, ALEXANDER, farmer, P. O. Shenandoah; born near McComb, Illinois, September 1, 1836. Lived with his parents until twenty-two years old. He remained in that locality until twenty-seven years old, when he enlisted in company L, 7th regiment Illinois cavalry, and served nine months and was discharged and sent home to McComb. In 1863 moved to Adams county, Illinois and remained there about two years when he came to his present location in Washington township. He was married to Miss Matilda Spiker, September 14, 1872. Mrs. Harris was born in 1851, in Hancock county, Illinois. They have five children: Ruby M., Louis A., Loy E., Melvina and Arthur Garfield, the Baby. Mr. Harris owns 480 acres of land, all in cultivation, and is an enterprising, industrious man.
