DR. WESLEY WILSON is a native of Grayson County, Ky., born January 24, 1846, the second in a family of six children born to Vincent and Anna (Davis) Wilson. The mother died when Wesley was ten years old, and the father four years later, immediately after which he came to Indiana to live with his uncle, Henry McKinney, of Richland County, where he was raised and educated in the common schools of the country. February 24, 1862, he enlisted as musician in the Fifty-third Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and served in that capacity until August 5, 1865, when he was honorably discharged at Indianapolis. He was with Gen. Grant from Shiloh until the seige and evacuation of Corinth, at the surrender of Vicksburg, and with Gen. Sherman at Atlanta and in his march to the sea. After his return from the war he engaged in business at Richland in company with Joshua McKinney, and afterward went into partnership with Michael Wilhelmus, and continued the business there with different parties until 1870, when he commenced the study of medicine, which he pursued three years, during that time attending the Indiana Medical College at Indianapolis, and graduating from that institution February 26, 1873. In March of that year he located at Yankeetown, where he has since resided, having quite a successful and lucrative practice. January 3, 1867, his marriage with Sarah Shoptaugh was solemnized, and they are the parents of four children, three now living: Ida, Dalton and Pina. Mrs. Wilson is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Dr. Wilson is a member of the Masonic fraternity, of Yankeetown Lodge, No. 446, and a stanch Republican in politics.
