JACOB BANTA, farmer, Craig Township, son of Rev. Henry D. Banta, was born in Trimble County, Ky., February 7, 1812, and was four years old when his parents came to Switzerland County. He was married in 1833 to Sarah, daughter of Isaac and Susan Ferris, and at once located on his present farm. He began life with a capital of $250. He owns, at present 184 acres of good land. He served three years on the board of county commissioners. Nine children have been born to him, all living, viz.: Isaac, Mary J., Susan, Ellen, Sarah O., Eliza, Emma, Henry and Mitchel. Mr. and Mrs. Banta are acceptable members of the Christian Church, with which they have been connected since 1850.
